ell brown posted a photo: February 2012 updates of Hotel La Tour. Believe that it is supposed to open by March 2012. Also got one shot of Island House under scaffolding. Saw workers putting up scaffolds. Hope it doesn't get demolished. While I was free from work at lunchtime, decided to grab a new shot of Island House. Been in the local news recently - as the owners want to knock it down. But a lot of people want it to stay. One of my old photos is here Some history of Island House by Joe Holyoak In the V of Albert Street Island House of 1912-13 by G. E. Pepper. Mannerist, e.g. the reversed orders on the corner entrance: Ionic below, then Doric, then Tuscan. From Pevsner Architectural Guides: Birmingham by Andy Foster. Island House was built as offices and warehousing for Churchill & Co, and has parallels in other commercial and industrial buildings designed by Pepper, of which 75 Vyse Street in the Jewellery Quarter, constructed in 1909, is now listed by English Heritage at grade II. I'm not sure that it is Grade II - never found it on British Listed Buildings or Heritage Gateway. Was locally listed Grade B. Please do not demolish this! Author : ell brown
